Senior Management

James C. Mastandrea
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Mastandrea has over 38 years of experience in the real estate industry and 20 years of experience serving in high level positions of publicly traded companies. He has served as our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 2006. He has also served since 2003 as the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Pillarstone Capital REIT (OTC Bulletin Board). Mr. Mastandrea has also served since 1978 as the Chief Executive Officer/Founder of MDC Realty Corporation, a privately held investment company. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Mastandrea served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of First Union Real Estate Investments (NYSE). Mr. Mastandrea also served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mastandrea is a director of Cleveland State University Foundation Board and regularly lectures to MBA students at the University of Chicago and teaches as an adjunct professor at Rice University's Jones Graduate School of Business.
John J. Dee
Chief Operating Officer
John J. Dee has served as our Chief Operating Officer since 2006. Mr. Dee also serves, since, 2003, as the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Trustees of Paragon Real Estate and Equity and Investment Trust. Prior to joining us, Mr. Dee served from 2002 to 2003 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MDC Realty Corporation, a privately held residential and commercial real estate development company. From 2000 to 2002, he served as Director of Finance and Administration for Frantz Ward, LLP. From 1978 to 2000, he held several management positions at First Union Real Estate Investments, a NYSE-listed REIT, and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer.
David K. Holeman
Chief Financial Officer
David K. Holeman is our Chief Financial Officer and has served in this capacity since 2006. Mr. Holeman also served as the Chief Financial Officer of our former Management company. Prior to joining us, Mr. Holeman served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Gexa Energy, a NASDAQ listed retail electricity provider from 2004 to 2006, and as Controller and Chief Financial Officer of Houston Cellular Telephone Company from 1994 to 2003.
Bradford D. Johnson
Executive Vice President, Acquisitions & Asset Management
Bradford Johnson is Vice President of Acquisitions and Asset Management for Whitestone REIT. Mr. Johnson has over 25 years of commercial real estate experience and has previously held executive and management positions with other REITs and real estate development companies. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Acquisitions and Development with Campus Living Villages Funds Management REIT in Houston. His background includes extensive experience in real estate financial analysis related to acquisitions, redevelopment and dispositions. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Baylor University, where he earned his B.A. in Business Administration.
Christine C. J. Mastandrea
Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy

Christine Mastandrea joined Whitestone REIT (NYSE:WSR) in 2013 to lead the product strategy and marketing efforts. Prior to joining the firm, Mrs. Mastandrea advised Whitestone in its business development and strategy. She also worked with the executive team on high-priority projects including the firm’s IPO in 2010.

Mastandrea started her career in banking at Robert W. Baird. Later, she served as a Chief Operating Officer at MidWest Development Corporation in Chicago, Ill and founding partner of Paragon Real Estate LLP, a partnership specializing in the restructuring and recapitalization of commercial real estate companies.

Mrs. Mastandrea earned her MBA at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She is a former trustee of the International Women’s Air and Space Museum. She currently serves on numerous boards including Lake Erie College, Calvin College Regional Council, and Cleveland Clinic Advisory Board for Women’s Health. Christine has a private pilot’s license and is an avid martial artist.

Donald F. Keating
Mr. Keating was formerly the Chief Financial Officer of Shell Mining Company. Mr. Keating retired from Shell Mining Company in 1992 and continued to provide consulting services to Shell Oil (NYSE) until 2002. Since 2002, Mr. Keating has managed his personal investments. Mr. Keating served in the United States Marine Corps as infantry company commander. He is a former board member of Billiton Metals Company, R & F Coal Company and Marrowbone Coal Company.
Paul T. Lambert
Mr. Lambert has served since 1995 as the Chief Executive Officer of Lambert Capital Corporation, a private real estate investment company. He was a co-founder of First Industrial Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE), served on the Board of Directors and was the Chief Operating Officer from its initial public offering in October 1994 to the end of 1995. Since 1998 Mr. Lambert has also served as a trustee of Pillarstone Capital REIT (OTC Bulletin Board).
Nandita V. Berry
Ms. Berry was formerly the 109th Texas Secretary of State from January 2014 to February 2015. She also previously served on the University of Houston System Board of Regents and held Senior Counsel positions at Locke Lord LLP and El Paso Energy Corporation. Ms. Berry began her legal career as an Associate at Haynes and Boone, LLP. Ms. Berry previously served on the board of the Houston Zoo, Inc., the South Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Community Family Center of Houston and taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston.
David F. Taylor
Mr. Taylor currently serves as Chair of Locke Lord LLP. Mr. Taylor has been a Partner in the firm of Locke Lord LLP since 1996 and has served as a corporate and securities attorney at Locke Lord LLP since 1989. Mr. Taylor has more than two decades of experience representing public and private companies, including master limited partnerships, in a broad range of corporate and securities matters, with a strong focus on securities offerings and disclosures, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. Mr. Taylor is the former Managing Partner of Locke Lord LLP’s Houston office and the former Chair of its Finance Committee. He has also served in leadership positions within Locke Lord LLP in Strategic Growth, Practice Development and Recruiting areas. A member and former Co-Chair of Locke Lord LLP’s Corporate and Transactional Department, Mr. Taylor is Chair of its Capital Markets division. He also serves on the Board of the Greater Houston Partnership, Central Houston, Inc. Theatre Under the Stars and Oldham Little Church Foundation.
Jack L. Mahaffey
Mr. Mahaffey was formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer of Shell Mining Company. Since retiring from Shell Mining Company in 1991, Mr. Mahaffey has managed his personal investments. Mr. Mahaffey served in the United States Air Force and is a former board member of the National Coal Association and the National Coal Council.
Daniel G. DeVos
Trustee Emeritus
Daniel G. DeVos has been a member of our Board since February 2009. Since 1993 Mr. DeVos has served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of DP Fox Ventures, LLC, a diversified management enterprise with investments in real estate, transportation, and sports teams. Since 1999, Mr. DeVos has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Motors, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, majority owner of the Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL) and has an ownership interest in the Orland Magic (NBA). Mr. DeVos has served as Vice Chairman of the RDV Corporation Board since 1991, and since 1980 has served as a director and currently serves on the Audit Committee of Alticor, Inc., the parent of Amway Corporation, located in Ada, Michigan. Since March 2003, Mr. DeVos has served as a trustee of Paragon Real Estate Equity and Investment Trust, a company that was traded on the former American Stock Exchange until 2006 and served as a trustee of First Union Real Estate Investments (NYSE) from 1994 to 1998. Mr. DeVos has extensive and diverse business experience within and outside the real estate industry and possesses exceptional leadership skills in business and non-profit management.
